Who Knocked?

Life moved.
I grew,
And I grew tall.

Neglecting routine reserves,
Thinking they were all mine.

Things that were once free,
Soon came priced.

The inhale of fresh oxygen,
Now, layered with a nosy mask.

The solitude of lush greens,
Patrolled by guarded cops.

The zest of barefoot run,
Lie inside an online yoga room.

The silence of holy shrine,
Deliver home-made prayers.

The crisp of morning newsprint,
Surface a lifeless touchscreen.

The joy of hand-picked dailies,
Shrink-wrap in a market app.

The sizzle of hot popcorn in cinema,
Couch on indoor live streaming.

The thrill of real santoor,
Play on headphones in playlists.

The ghazal of Jagjit,
Ripples nostalgia in whisky.

The fine dining impression,
Sit at home-made dinner tables.

The roar of 3.00 am friends,
Mute with Zoom call Hi’s…

The promise of our well-being,
Commit insurance in covid covers.

The retire of one’s sweat,
Trend live stories on instagram.

The peace of mindful sleep,
Hover with what’s for tomorrow.

The warmth of love,
Is touched with woody silence.

What happened… Who knocked?

It only said,
I give… I retaliate…

Absences with absence.
Affection with affection.
Friendship with friendship.
Loyalty with loyalty.
No more one sided feelings.
Feelings must be mutual.
Respect my being.
And I respect you.

I am Nature.

Maai ki dua!

Ek des mera,
Ek gaon mera,
Gaon mein rehti meri maai,
Saath na chootein kabhi tera,
Dua kare yeh meri maai.

Kudrat teri paanch oongli,
Bhinn soch paanchon ki,
Band karlu moothi banjaye,
Saath na tootein ek moothi ka,
Dua kare yeh meri maai.

Sar zameen ko salaam mera,
Raah meri maine hai chooni,
Modh na le alag inn raaston ka,
Saath na badlein dishaaon ka,
Dua kare yeh meri maai.

Samundar teri khoob badi gehrai,
Pyaas alag sabke mann ko bhaayie,
Dhaara yunh behti banke Ganga,
Saath na ruke tere boondon ka,
Dua kare yeh meri maai.

Gulshan khile baghbaan ka,
Khooshboo bani rajnigandha ki,
Kesariya rang bikhra baadal mein,
Saath na mitein sugandh ka,
Dua kare yeh meri maai.

Vichaar alag, bhasha anek,
Basera wahi sabka ek,
Lehrata tiranga gagan mein rang laya,
Saath na bhoolein mitti ke lahu ka,
Dua kare yeh meri maai.

Maa – Strength!

I wail in tears,
A gentle smile lifts me.

I fall in stupor,
The mighty lift wakes me.

I fail to giant storms,
A warm pat puts my grip back.

I loath in sadness,
A brave heart pours courage in me.

I succumb to defeat,
An innate warrior flushes hot blood again.

Ye ye… I wonder in awe,
Who is this?
Where does it hail from?

A mellow voice rings in my ears,
I am the ‘Strength’.
I am infinite.
I gave you life.
I yielded you.
My womb nurtured you,
To live for eternity.
I am your ‘Maa’.
I am your Strength.

Dedicated to my Mom. You melt in the cosmos but your undying spirit is the charisma of my strength. Love you, Maa!
